It would be easy to take a pessimistic view of the world in 2024:
- Global conflict
- Many countries trying to deliver carbon reductions whilst others bomb and shoot
- Crazy politics everywhere with instability
In terms of energy, despite all these sources of instability, the lesson remains the same:
MEASURE YOUR ENERGY USE (Understand which are the major consuming items)
FIND WAYS OF USING LESS ENERGY (Insulation, Lifestyle or just good operating procedures)
TRY TO DESIGN OUT THE THINGS THAT USE THE MOST ENERGY
DON’T BELIEVE THERE IS A SILVER BULLET
Much-vaunted technologies may play a role but you must be rigorous in adopting them:
- Heat pumps (particularly interesting as new refrigerants offer the prospect of high output temperatures and high COP).
- Hydrogen (Green not Blue)
Just because government offer financial incentives don’t feel you must adopt a technology unless you know it will work for you in the long-term as sometimes government get it wrong and renege on promises.
So really the advice remains the same! Get good advice!
